The Retiro park re-opened a week or so ago.

The Retiro park re-opened a week or so ago.
The park is full of the usual idiots - youngsters in the main- crawling all over each other, sharing food, and drinks from the same bottles, Of course, not a mask to be seen and in groups of what seem like 100s. Why don't the authorities put a firm stop to it? Many will be asymptomatic and contagious. The 2nd wave is already here. They will spread it quickly and put at risk all the self-sacrifice that has gone on before and is still continuing among the more cautious and sensible of the population.

I know exactly what you mean, Andy. The fact that they've loosened some of the constraints here, has made the youngsters think that it's all over now - so they are everywhere. I hate to think how many more people are going to catch the virus now- then the hospitals will be overrun again. So stupid and thoughtless.

Apart from that little rant - apologies - the plants here in the park are amazing. They are really lovely and so different from the usual park flowers that we have here in the UK

Not a rant at all, Jenny. Well-considered and logical opinions!
(And sad to say, a second wave, which has already begun, will soon be rampant).
And you have here euphorbias, various alliums and a kind of mini agapanthus. (I think!)

The real danger is that law and order will disintegrate as hoi polloi (I include me in this), suddenly find themelves without food and the basics. And that moment is imminent.

The light is amazing and the background shadow really highlights the flowers. It is frustrating when people ignore the rules. The young think they are immortal. I remember a huge polio outbreak in Glasgow which I ignored and went swimming every day because "it wouldn't happen to me " And mostly you don't think about other people, you're self-obsessed. But the authorities should police things better. I'm glad I'm in Scotland at the moment. At least the rules are clear and are being relaxed in a slow and cautious way. Not everyone behaves well of course but a bit of consistency helps. Westminster seems to be making a dog's breakfast of everything in England and we can only diverge so much as we are still part of the UK.

Thank you!
I agree with what you say, Jean.
Interestingly, I used a 1983 article in The Times for an online class today by the late, great, Bernard Levin to discuss many of the points you raise here.

A charming corner of your park: a quiet, soothing Eden between warm lights and soft shadows that seems light years away from that reality still and always so impending exacerbated by reckless behaviors.
Best wishes Andy !

Beautiful picture, sad notes :(
Good news on the TV last night, with a promising vaccine undergoing tests.
Around here I have not seen anything to complain about, but some of the BLM protests in towns have been a bit worrying. Take care.

So many egocentric, selfish ars..oles out there. I thought there were many, but I had no idea that they formed such a powerful and dangerous element of society. There will be copious theses and books on this for generations to come ... if we survive to tell the tale, that is!

Gorgeous light on those flowers Andy....................well seen and taken!

It's just a bad here in some places.........the police have had to issue dispersal notices in some parks and there's been more rioting in London! Stupid people..!!

it will get worse when the pubs open..................

Edit: just listening to my local news - roads gridlocked, beaches packed, social distancing impossible, police declaring major incidents and closing roads, vandalism and litter - utter madness!

Indeed you do, Peter.
I download the Times to stay in touch with Blighty, so I'm aware of the similarities between the two countries regarding the irresponsibility of youth (in the main, but many older tosspots too!)
I really don't want to categorize a whole generation as criminally insane; I really don't. But ... ...
