Wow the island with the lighthouse on, actually has grass growing there - so it's not as far away from the shore. A great photo.

It's a very famous lighthouse, Jenny; the inspiration for Virginia Woolfe's 'To the Lighthouse', which was set in Scotland but based here in St Ives Bay, Cornwall and which she could see from her house in St Ives.
I guess it's about 1/4 mile offahore.
And sometimes they move a tiny flock of sheep over just to cut the grass!

Cornwall had two big industries; tin mining (which died in the 1870s as cheaper mines were opened up in Indonesia and Central America) and fishing (especially the sardine industry which suplied the world with brined sardines stored in barrels and smaller containers for shipment round the world). Then in the 1900s, the sardine shoals disappeared, never to return.
So, Cornwall became even poorer and today subsists on tourism and this year might see the death of even that.
And Europe used to provide generous funding for the poor people of Cornwall.
And you can guess what I'm going to write next: The Cornish, who are lovely people, must also be incredibly 'uninformed' because they voted 76% in favour of Brexit. I really do despair. Now they will need European aid more than ever and my heart cries out to them from afar!
