Carn Galver tin mine and count house.

Carn Galver tin mine and count house.
Situated at Bosigran, Zennor, Cornwal. This wasn't a particularly successful tin mine and closed in the 1870s after only a couple of decades of mediocre production. The count house was the Stannary Office for the Crown and controlled mining licences and purity / quality / weight issues, etc. This one was the official mining office for a wide area, not just for this one mine. It is now a hostel for adventure groups, climbers, kayakers, walkers and the like. I have stayed here with my old uni pals on sea-cliff climbing holidays and had a great time, helped by the fact that I had / have family up the road!
In the background are Commando Ridge and Bosigran Head, both excellent climbing areas and, of course, the Atlantic Ocean.
For Pam.

There were a few unsuccessful tin mines around Cornwall. A lovely story about its change of use and the fact that you have taken advantage of it. Great picture here.

I hope you aren't anywhere near this horrendous wild fire I've heard about on the news today. It seems that with your unnaturally hot weather, has managed to start a wildfire.

I type this naked except for a wet towel draped round my neck, Jenny! No wild fires in the centre of Madrid ... yet!
