It looks like a Scots Pine to me but can someone confirm or refute?

Wow you had beautiful weather Andy. I'm afraid I'm not all that well versed with the names of trees so I can't confirm or refute this - sorry.

Me neither, Jenny. That's why I put it out to those who know more than me!
Sunny but a bitterly cold wind.

I think it likely to be a Scots pine. The reddish color of the bark looks right to me. Scots pine has needles in bundles of two, which I certainly can't see in this photo. We don't have it here in Mississippi, but it was common in Michigan where I used to live.

I'll go along with your hunch. It was mine also!

The tree looks beautiful and sturdy and provides nice shade too!

It could be but in spite of being a Scot I'm rubbish at ID. Maybe I'll get better as we're doing our best to restore at least some of the Caledonian forest. Trees for Life is now into planting its second million trees.

They are certainly worth restoring, not just for the natural balace of the Caledonian ecosystem but because, fortunately, they are really beautiful!

A pleasant view of Madrid, but I'm afraid I know nothing of Scots Pines.

Very nicely framed view Andy, the shade provided by the tree must be a valuable commodity in Madrid.

All the best, Doug
