Andy Rodker club has replied to Stevia clubThis is not broom / genista, but gorse. They are easily confused: same family; Fabaceae, and similar colour (although gorse can be a brighter yellow in favourable conditions) but there are differences in flower and leaf shape. Gorse tends to do better in coastal locations.
Both do well in the granitic /acidic soils of Cornwall and the Mountains of Central Spain. I see both in Spain, gorse first (in flower April to June), followed by broom in profusion (- in flower June-August), whereas I see the latter rarely in Cornwall. The gorse can flower all year round in Cornwall if the conditions are right.
best wishes,
Andy
Stevia club has replied to Andy Rodker clubI was once in Ireland. At that time the gorse bloomed so wonderfully there too!
Many greetings,
Stevia
