Penandrea mine chimney, Redruth, Cornwall.

Penandrea mine chimney, Redruth, Cornwall.
A tin mine slap bang in the middle of town! Now its chimney is a pleasing feature and landmark but this would have been Hell on Earth in about 1840!
A mine in operation for copper and tin from the early 18th century and possibly much earlier until it was shut down in 1891.

That was generous Andy. I think I might have at least let him know I knew what he had done. !

Well, Pam ... I was flying back to Madrid the following day and didn't have the time. In a different mood, I might have done! Especially so as the estate agency (realtor to you!) is one of the biggest in the area and that a senior member of the firm and a member of the founding family worked behind the bar with me at a pub in Zennor one summer in the late 70s! I didn't stay in touch but I know people (family) who did! One day when I have time on my hands and feel like a moan I just might make contact!!! (not!!)

Yes, sorry Pam, I momentarily forgot!
I am ever conscious of the differences between British English and American English in the classes I give. I have some students that only want American spellings, grammar (there are a few differences - on/at the weekend, etc.) and pronunciation and some who prefer the British versions. Most, thankfully, aren't bothered!

Quite a landmark. Cornwall looks fascinating. I've only been once and you are showing me what I've missed. A bit annoying about the estate agent. I like it if people ask but I'm a bit like Judith. Only once really annoyed when someone reposted a bird photo adding a four letter word caption.

I have been asked a few times (on Pano) - sometimes by geology students and of course I said 'yes' every time!

I would have raised a stink about the photo. Nice shot and reminds me of some happy holidays in Cornwall.

Good to see that the past is not being eradicated as it is in some places..........and as chimneys go, it's quite a nice looking one!

... a really nicely composed photograph: great elements throughout ...

(N.B. -- I bought a Photoshop program just so I could watermark my uploads, because of the looting of photos at the demise of Panoramio: it was just irritating to me. But I cannot get the darn program to work; certainly wish I could, so that I can start uploading on IP again.)

Thanks once again, Roger. I saw my photo used again in a local Estate Agent's blurb. I can't find it now but I told the story of this photo as plagiarised from Panoramio and in the end decided not to take it further. This continued misuse of my photo by the exact same estate agents is beginning to get my goat and I might just do something about it this time!
