Amazing shot! Alargón River draws the border between Caceres Province - Extremadura Region, where you stood, and Salamanca Province - Castilla and León Region, across the river.

A good holiday spent there in 2016 as I was recovering from leukaemia. 2 weeks based first in Salamanca and then in Puerta de Bejar in a superb casa rural. We travelled all over the Sierra de Francia, Las Huedes, Las Batuecas, Valley of the Jerte, etc etc. Superb countryside. In fact, I have known this area since 1981 (my sister got married in 1983 in the church at Cabazuela del Valle - my brother-in-law is therefore Estremadurian!). My girlfriend is also fond of the area so a holiday here to aid my recovery was a no-brainer!

A cracking shot of this Oxbow type river Andy. Looks like a great place. Not good about the poverty though.

Still poor but not quite like the 40s and 50s! My brother-in-law is from near here and he recalls as a child one sack of split peas having to last the village all winter. They caught rats to survive. And we are talking about the early 60s!
