Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel


I like this photo of this Ground Squirrel but I have a hard time deciding If I should crop it or not. Any suggestions would be appreciated :) As you can see on the photo in my comment box I can crop very close because the image is quite sharp.

This crop from my photo is just to show how clear it is and so you will know how close you can crop without loosing to much details in the squirrel.

Thanks John :) They really are funny to watch. I took this photo when I was climbing up a rocky hill when I was at Moraine Lake last year. These Golden-mantled Ground Squirrels were all over the place and I even saw one in the coffee house that were there :)

Thanks John and TideSurfer :) I was actually not asking to choose between these two photos. I was just showing how close it was possible to crop without loosing the quality in the photo. The reason why I have a hard time knowing how to crop this photo is because of the tail. If I want to crop closer I have to crop off the tail and no matter how I did it, I did not like the outcome.

If I was being really fussy, I would suggest you get rid of the patch of blue in the corner. It takes the eye away from the squirell's eye. But, if you cropped it, it would unbalance the image and cut off the squirrel's tail. Maybe it could be dulled down a bit?

I tried two versions. One where I desaturated the sky but on the other photo I changed the landscape a "little bit" :)

The first ne is a big improvement, but I like the second one a lot. The squirrel is now the focus and there is no competing area in the image. I think that is a really good shot now.

Rosalega flott og skörp mynd. Skottið er algjört "must" að mínu mati, en það er sniðug hugmynd að setja kletta í staðinn fyrir bláa litinn, kemur mjög vel út :o)

Takk Oddur :) Sammála þessu með skottið. Mér fannst ég þurfa að kroppa myndina eitthvað en ég gat það bara ekki. Hugmyndin sem Rob var með leysti vandamálið að mínu mati. Ég veit ekki hvort það er löglegt að klóna klettinn eins og ég gerði en það var allavega betra að minnka blámann á himninum. Kletturinn er ekkert góður sem bakgrunnur en þetta segir manni allavega það hvað bakgrunnurinn er mikilvægur.
