I think this is a type of wasp - can anyone identify ?? From head to tail it is about 40mm.
This pic was taken in my garden yesterday. The flower is Astrantia.

Possibly a giant wood wasp or horntail (Urocerus gigas) Jeff; difficult to tell from this angle and the colour is possibly not right.

I have found out that it is a 'Gasteruption jaculator' . It is a parasitic wasp which lays it's eggs in the nests of solitary bees.
