The Man Who Saved A Cathedral

The Man Who Saved A Cathedral
This is a bronze bust of William Walker and it is found in Winchester Cathedral. In the very early 1900s the cathedral was showing signs of failing foundations in the water sodden ground in which it stands. Various attempts to underpin the foundation failed because water just filled any excavations before anything could be done. William who was a deep sea diver was brought in and for the next six years he laboured every day for six hours a day in dark muddy water working feeling his way with bare hands. He dug trenches and filled the with bags of concrete and eventually the water could be pumped out and the foundations underpinned and Winchester Cathedral was saved from collapse.

To go with William the track can only be " Holy Diver " by RJD , that is Ronnie James Dio. He was really Ronnie James Padavona an American/Italian but he took the name "Dio" , one thought is it was from the mobster Johnny Dio another is the his grandmother said he had the gift of God ( Dio is God in Italian ) . Another of RJD's legacies is that he is attributed with starting the hand gesture seen at many rock concerts - the Metal Horns .

A fascinating description and an inspired musical match for 'Sight and Sound'. Not heard this one before...a rockin' good track! Cheers very much for posting, Vince.
