Kroger "greenhouse" store, Princeton, WV

Kroger "greenhouse" store, Princeton, WV
This larger greenhouse store replaced the aforementioned superstore in 1984. This is the grocery store of my childhood; that I visited near-weekly and got lost a few times inside of for good measure. Unfortunately for originality, the store was expanded and extensively renovated in 1999 (in which the deli, bakery, and pharmacy were all shuffled around and all fixtures were replaced from the shelves on down); though at least the slanted glass outside remains intact.

Steven Swain tells me of an interesting connection he had to this store and the renovation thereof:

"I was working as an intern architect at the time, and the firm where I worked did a lot of engineering work for Kroger. One of my bosses was from West Virginia and had an civil engineer's licence from there, so we got the job. I didn't get to move the deli, but I did lay out the pharmacy fixtures and design the canopy."
