For a number of years I used to travel fairly frequently between London & Southampton, and I enjoyed seeing the countryside at different times of year. The big plus in the winter was that you could see through the trees that lined the route in many places, as the leaves had fallen off. It seemed a bit weird to be looking forward to that happening, but I did like seeing the farms, villages and rivers beyond the treeline.

This line runs less than 200 yards from our house but there is a row of semis plus a belt of trees in the way so although we can hear all the trains we cannot see what they are. However, from now on, as the leaves drop the trains gradually come more and more into view. To begin with only their headlights can be seen through the thinning branches but by winter we can see the whole lot including, on frosty mornings, the sparks from the overhead pantograph. So, yes, I do see what you mean.
