A Dorset coast panorama

A Dorset coast panorama
A 2012 view along the Dorset coast from Charmouth's fossil cliffs (left edge) along to the start of Chesil Beach far right. The triangular hill in the centre is Golden Cap, the highest cliff on the south coast rising to over 500 feet according to Google Earth.

We walked to the top one afternoon back in the 90's and were enjoying the view when we realised "something" was happening. Coastguards appeared and there was a degree of excitement. It transpired that a cow had got itself into difficulty on the cliff front and needed rescuing. Sure enough, two Royal Navy helicopters arrived from Portland and whilst one stood off over the sea the other came in, lowered a rope net, winched up the (sedated) cow and took it to a field well inland. Why go to that much trouble for a cow you ask? Well, such events were apparently used as training exercises and why not? I had a video camera and taped the lot. Someone suggested I contact the local TV Station (SWT??) It sent a courier and used part of my film for the evening's local news. What did I receive? A note thanking me for use of my film! Oh well, we all seek 5 minutes of fame although in this case it was more like 60 seconds ;-)
