My weekend retreat

My weekend retreat
Oh, come on. We can all have our own dreams ;-))

This is Tatton Hall in Cheshire, one time home to the Egerton family and is the jewel of local stately homes. I have to admit that, of all the country houses I have ever visited, this one feels more like a home than a museum to me. It dates from the late 1700's and replaced an older hall on a different part of the parkland. This is the garden side with a terraced garden just beyond the balustrade. The last Lord Egerton died in 1958 and he bequeathed the hall to the National Trust. When I researched my family tree some time back, I was hoping that I could prove that I was a lost 1st cousin 15 times removed and could thus claim my inheritance back. No, I just got to a farmer in the mid 1700's ;-( Ah well, at least I can dream.
