Macclesfield Football Club 1935

Macclesfield Football Club 1935
A photo taken from the 1935/6 Jubilee Edition of our local rag. With the next football season about to hit us, I thought it might be of interest to see the sporting fashions of 80 years ago - not a tattoo in sight and every player has two ears on view ;-)) And just look at those socks and boots - and that's a proper leather ball weighing a ton, even more so when wet!

It is also interesting to note that they are referred to as the "professionals" (the leading ones at that.) I don't know a lot about football teams, special local ones, but I was surprised to see that there is a suggestion that they may well have been full-time. I seem to recall that in the high times of the late 1960's, when the team was the first winner of the new FA Trophy, the players were all part-time and the captain was a local solicitor. No names were given with the photo.

The quality is not good as it was 1930's newspaper printing where every dot (pixel) was almost countable !!
