St Anthony Lighthouse on watch

St Anthony Lighthouse on watch
On less than bright and cheerful days, lighthouses such as this at St Anthony Head in Cornwall show their worth.
St Anthony Head lighthouse overlooks Falmouth Bay in the distance and guards the entrance to Falmouth Harbour and the Carrick Roads immediately right. Falmouth Bay seems to have regular visits from quite large vessels stay for a few hours before moving on. I was told they stop to bunker with "green" fuel before being allowed further up the Channel and into European harbours. Certainly they do all seem to have a visit from a local, much smaller, tanker from Falmouth Docks.

The lighthouse still works. It is, of course, unmanned but happens to be a holiday let these days - if you wish to take a chance on the fog horn!
