Boats of Lindisfarne Harbour

Boats of Lindisfarne Harbour
On Northumberland's Holy Island stand the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory overlooking the islands' harbour. On the shore are a number of upturned hulls of boats used as sheds. I suppose if boats can keep out the "solid" water of the sea then passing rainwater will stand less of a challenge (with the help of a little more waterproof material.)

Lindisfarne was recorded as the first place in England (and maybe southern Scotland as well) to suffer a raid from the Vikings. Such a destructive event would have been bad enough if people had heard of it before but for those isolated, peaceful monks in the Priory it must have been Hell arrived on earth. These were the very fields those Vikings would have stormed.
