Caspian Tern

Caspian Tern
The Caspian Tern, Hydroprogne caspia, is the world's largest Tern. It has a wide distribution and can be seen in the USA though we've never seen it there. This one was photographed along the esplanade in Cairns.

Karl Pallinger, Roeli Bindels, (*NIKonGT*), Cécile2016 and 34 other people have particularly liked this photo

You really never saw one in the USA? They are just as obliging along all of the eastcoast and in the Great Lakes you got chances in summer as well. I miss them in Europe, even Sandwich Terns are so tiny against Caspian Terns and Skimmers!

Not only have we not seen one in the USA but we've lived both on the east coast and in the Great Lakes region.

Very nice capture with the reflection. You make me want to return to Australia to see all the creatures that I did not see the first time around.
