Cocoa Pod

Cocoa Pod
On June 13th we visited a Sugar Cane and Cocoa plantation near Miallo. I posted a photo of the Cocoa flowers a couple of days ago (see inset photo). This is a Cocoa pod which will be ready for harvesting when it it turns color. After harvesting, the seeds, which are embedded in a white pulp, are removed and they are the source of that wonderful stuff we know as Cocoa. Interestingly, the scientific name, Theobroma, means "food of the gods".

Valfal, J. Gafarot, SaVonSasa, d and d 2 and 33 other people have particularly liked this photo

Still a long process to a bag of instant choco drink powder from there...
But the blossom, one step further removed, is much prettier!

Since they are heavy, it is very practical they hang directly from the stem. Cauliflor we call it.
Thanks for giving us news on your forthcoming absence, so we need not worry.
