Nootka Lupine

Nootka Lupine
Photographed along the Harding Icefields trail in Kenai Fjords National Park, I believe this is the Nootka Lupine, but if anyone knows better I'd appreciate a correction. I was not able to bring my wildflower books along because we were carrying everything in our backpacks and I forgot to check the number of leaflets when I photographed this.

Ron, this Lupine nootkatensis, seen from your Alaska trip, is, as you day. And it is absolutely stunning -- a prize take. This specie reminds me of Sweet Peas - the vanes in the blossom. I would suppose you saw fields of these, but the close up is most precious.

A very nice lupine, with all the fine gradients and different colours in the blossoms, each row an other combination!

A splendid lupine.
Wouldn’t we get excited over lupines if we didn’t find them everywhere!

I believe the Lupines are more for the high country and north, certainly not the "comen" variety we see around here. The shot is truly awesome. The entire stem looks like it was from a florist instead of being out in the wilds of Alaska. Thanks for posting.
