Dendrobium violaceum
In Explore March 15, 2012, #411.

Dendrobium violaceum is a variable species from the highlands of New Guinea. The plant varies from 8 to 40 cm in height, the flowers from 3 to 4.5 cm. The flowers also vary in color from pink to purple and even come in blue and white. This plant is around 30 cm tall and the flowers about 4 cm. The plant has narrow pseudobulbs, visible in the picture, and narrow channeled leaves. The flowers last about six months, though the color fades a bit as they grow older. The plant requires cool temperatures and high light.
