Excellent capture. They are looking dull, but they can be very fast.

Thank you! I remember reading a bit about them when I went to South Africa (literally a few days) and found them to be most impressive creatures; deceptive as you say. I returned with a hippo pendant. ;-)

Ooh... I like hippos but I don't know about sharing the bathtub after seeing the way they um... made it that colour naturally... :-O

Well, he set about entertaining himself shortly after, playing in the water with a log as a dog would a stick! Fun to watch ;-)

I went to the zoo this Saturday too, hehe. :p Our hippos weren't outside, though.
That's a wonderful shot, I love how sharp it is so you can clearly see the pattern of his skin...

Stiletto pro replies:
Ha ha!! Really?! Funny coincidence! :-D These two were quite active. After lolling in the water for while they both ambled out, walked into their hut, emerged within minutes and returned to the water - to play with a log!
Thanks a lot! :-)

Mojca replies:
How cute! I never saw our hippos DOING anything, really... they're probably depressed or something. :(

Stiletto pro replies:
Well, this is what surprised me at the zoo - how active and interested so many of the animals were.

Honestly, even the kangaroos I thought might just be huddled because of the weather; nothing for your standards but miserable for this part of the world. The tigers were walking around, but not with a glazed expression or in a zombie way...
I heard the lion roaring and saw him moving in the distance for a spell... The giraffe, some of the birds and that - approaching with interest at the fence. I was pleasantly surprised! :-) Not what I'd expected...

Mojca replies:
That sounds so nice, they must be well taken care of. I have a love-hate relationship with zoos, I find it sad that the animals are trapped in there but I still go visit from time to time because I enjoy being surrounded by them... eh :/

Stiletto pro replies:
Yes, and I feel they are a necessary evil - kids can be introduced ta animals, caring for them and their habitat, etc.. *sigh*

Oh definitely, it's so much different from when they see them on TV. They're just abstract entities on screen.
