What I really want with visits.....see the 2 notes 

Why?

I try to ignore it every time when I’m visiting other ipernity members but in some way it always catches my eye and influences me.

yes why? isn't it a good thing to see the visits you have? why not share it?

What is there ‘to share’ about that number?
In my opinion that number is the only thing on your personal page that says nothing about you. At most it gives a small indication of yours and your networks activities x time since you enjoyed ipernity.

Well, this question seems a matter of principle or taste; somehow though, it may increase the fervour to participate in the community...

Numbers are (also) a marketing instrument, (bad?) but they don't necessarily fight "quality" or more sublime traits (good?) of the things here exposed. To say it otherwise, it would be something like forbidding "rotten" art... though a little of purism is healthy, I'd not support ostracism :-D

To have a choice for showing them or not may even become snobbish, even if choice feels kind of good...

why snobbish?

snobbish, because the people that let this number visible could be identified as "vain"... :-DD and the others as "elitist". But maybe this is my fantasy...

well, it could be, but i don't think it will work this way in ipernity community. do you think there is a lot people with tendency to be snobbish?

Allereerst bedankt voor het reageren
Ik betwijfel of dat cijfer op zich meer activiteit zal genereren en zie niet in hoe dit te gebruiken is als een marketinginstrument (Om geschikt te zijn voor marketing doeleinden zijn meetbare gegevens vereist en dat is hier niet aanwezig). Net als the Coward heb ik geen idee wat is snobbistisch (snobbisch about this).
Maar eventueel voor andere doeleinden te gebruiken of snobbish of niet, het doet er niet toe voor mij.
Om andere redenen wil ik toch dat nummer (out of) mijn persoonlijke page. :-))

(Sorry hier en daar wat vreemd taalgebruik, maar moest om Google Translate ongeveer hetzelfde te laten vertalen in het Engels)

Die cijfers worden natuurlijk gebruikt om de prijs van een dienst/product als ipernity te bepalen en evt te verkopen. Ik begreep dat inmiddels ook google-ads op de pagina's te zien zijn, dus wacht er maar op... (Ik zie ze zelf niet, als pro...)
Over snobbish heb ik The Coward beantwoord...
Natuurlijk moet die mogelijkheid er zijn en soms zijn de redenen belangrijk genoeg ;-)

My opinion:
I like to see how active somebody is in Ipernity. One indicator is the number of visits.
The number of documents says not so much about activity. I know people who came from Flickr with 2000 photos and didn't upload not many since they came.
I agree that the number of visits says nothing about you and the quality of your work.

exactly, sometimes happens to me that someone with a lot of visits (and uninteresting photos on the homepage) has something attractive somewhere. Most of the times it takes some time to find out where this attractiveness is waiting, but it's always there...
It is a "social" site anyway, so it's not so much the photos but the interaction

Visits of views lijken wel de Holy Grail van foto communities. Veel views = veel status.

Ik vraag me bij die tellers bovendien altijd af hoe ze tellen. Als ik de teller op flickr moet geloven is een bepaalde foto dik 17.000 keer bekeken, en daarmee verantwoordelijk voor ongeveer de helft van alle ' views' van mijn stream. Het aantal loopt nog steeds op, terwijl het laatste commentaar op die foto alweer vier maanden werd geschreven. Vreemd.

Op zich is het wel interessant om te zien hoe je 'views' kunt sturen. Als jij tags als nude, girl, sexy toevoegt aan een foto van een brood (of 'buns' aan kadetjes :-) zul je waarschijnlijk het aantal views op zien lopen. De kwajongen in mij kon het bijvoorbeeld niet laten om bij wat foto's van acteurs in een stoffen Adams- c.q. Eva's-kostuum dit soort tags te plaatsen, om de 'pervs' te foppen, maar ook om de censors van bijvoorbeeld Flickr te tarten.

tja die eeuwige cijfers, dat tellertje, het is inderdaad relatief weinig duidend.
toch geeft het indicaties over populariteit en activiteit.
en motiveert het zeker een aantal onder ons om actief te blijven, zo zit de mens nu eenmaal in mekaar.
Personlijk blijf ik altijd verbaasd hoe dat ding omhoog blijft gaan, in t algemeen op de frontpage en per foto.
Het aantal bezoekers per foto vindik leuk om te zien, verassingen gegarandeerd
