Comet McNaught

Jan 20th 2007 - Mt Coot-tha Lookout, Brisbane, Australia.

Another one from the archives, but I like this shot. My first comet photography session, and it didn't turn out bad at all.

Now available, Comet McNaught for sale as prints or cards.

David de Groot replies:
I guess so - but since it was back in January, you'd best wish for something that's already come true ;-)

David de Groot replies:
Thanks - it was a bit of luck getting to see it at all as the previous week had been overcast and it was overcast a day or two after this too.

I means I'm down on my knees with this chance to get unique moment in the sky...
.....If i well remember you say in Australia, G'day dude, isnt'it?
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
David de Groot replies:
Ah ! Ok :-)

"G'day Mate" is the stereotypical greeting in Australia - not that you hear it much in the cities.

I vaguely remember that - it's been, ummm, 19 years since I last studied any French.

Nice.

Is this a reworked version of this one? I thought it was funny that no less than 5 minutes after looking at the one on your flickr, this one pops up on here :)
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
David de Groot replies:
Sure is - ran the original raw file through Lightroom, got a different result to what I did earlier to it on the flickr version. I like this one better.

I like this one too. The cloud just off center stands out more in this version.

It's nice to see this one again :)

David de Groot replies:
There'll likely be a few more archive shots popping up here until I can get out and take something I'm happy with. Still, I'm finding Lightroom does a much nicer job of post-processing the raw files than DPP did.

wow thats really great! Thats one thing I miss here in London - the clear sky where you can see the stars..... all we've got here is clouds!!! :(
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
David de Groot replies:
I've often heard that of London. Haven't been there myself (yet), but having lived through winters in Adelaide, I can relate to the monotonous cloudy skies for months on end.

Ja it just sux!!! Especially when you're not used to it! (The sky in SA must be pretty similar, I recon, to Australia (same hemisphere, etc)... I do miss seeing the Southern Cross and familiar navigational stars!!!
Posted 2 years ago. ( permalink )
David de Groot replies:
I would guess so. I've not been to SA (well not the country anyway - South Australia, on the other hand...) ;-)

Thanks :) I was quite pleased with my efforts from that evening, considering I'd never shot a comet before.

Stunning, thanks for this as I missed it :(

David de Groot replies:
Your welcome. I was somewhat anxious as the days ticked by and the clouds kept hanging around, but eventually we were graced by a couple of clear evenings.
