Die Früchte des Flammenbaums sehen aus wie überdimensionale, vertrocknete Bohnen. Wenn sie noch am Baum hängen, sind sie pechschwarz und samtig.

Ehrlich gesagt weiss ich das nicht. Ich hab mich erst auf Grund dieses Baumes gestern mal etwas eingehender bei Wikipedia informiert.

Edit: Ich lese gerade, man kann damit Musik machen: The seed pods of the Royal Poincianas are used in the Caribbean as a percussion instrument known as the shak-shak or maraca.

Ich koennte es ja mal versuchen ...

Leider steht dieser Baum aber auf Privatgelaende (verlassener Golfplatz): Abpfluecken wuerde ich da nun doch nicht so gerne was! ;-)

Nee, hier mal Ausnahmsweise nicht. Das Ding auf dem Boden war noch wesentlich groesser, als das andere, was da noch im Baum haengt. Und wenn man hier einen Stiel dran macht, koennte man das durchaus als Paddel nehmen.

Das Ding ist ungefaehr ein paar tausend mal so lang wie eine (winzige!) Feuerameise ;-)

Nein, ich schaetze mal, das war ca. 2 Fuss lang - 3 Fuss sind ein Meter. Also die Beschreibung "in etwa die Groesse eines Paddels" kommt schon hin.

Das schon - aber neuerdings verlangen die Fluggesellschaften fuer den 2. Koffer $25 extra (bisher durfte man auf USA-Fluegen immer 2 Koffer aufgeben), und einige haben sogar schon damit angefangen, auch fuer den ersten Koffer zu kassieren ...
