Save Our Pool 

Our local swimming pool was closed by the local council in 2001. We weren't happy. Protests and petitions were organised and over a period of around 5 months there was a 24/7 protest here. Latterly protesters occupied the building, and there were regular demonstrations. In August that year, the council sent in the mounted police and the building was closed.

This week, I have heard that a community trust has got the building and plans to raise the money to re-open the pool within the next two years. Wonderful, but the council still got off the hook.
