Along the Boundaries

© 2009 Aref Nammari

Sunday we had some severe weather here in Colorado (at least the area I live in). Tornado warning sirens went off and that was an invitation for me to grab my camera, get in the car and go looking for the perfect clouds. No tornadoes touched down anywhere close to where I was luckily and I did not see any despite the reports that there were five (they were too far away). However, the clouds were just AWESOME. This shot was right at the boundary where the air feeding the storm was converging. This low hanging cloud was just begging for a picture :)

Very impressive cloud. I like the contrast between the very bright cloud and the very dark landscape under the cloud. it gives me some feeling of danger and gladness to be not there only a viewer from the outside.

Thank you Haduk. Those clouds were really threatening and the energy fueling the instability was very palpable: clouds tearing apart, rejoining and racing. It was very thrilling to be outside yet somewhat safe shooting this pure energy above.

Careful out there, Aref. As you live in Colorado I probably don't need to tell you this but the best tornadoes are the ones that are out of visual range.
