Kilebygda kirke

Kilebygda kirke
Kilebygda church is an octagonal church in the municipality of Skien, Telemark county.

Year - 1859.

Architect - C. H. Grosch.

Material - Wood.

Funding - The community's residents donated all the materials for the church. The land was given by Hans Moller Rennesund.

Seating - 300

Altarpiece - Large bare cross with bright sky in the background, painted by Ola heath. Gold-plated visually rich carvings made by G. Kongerød.

Organ - from 1883 built by Engh in Porsgrunn. New organ in 1965 built by Norwegian organ and Harmoniumfabrikk, 11 votes.

Restoration - In 1954, an extension was added.

There was originally a cemetery around the church but because the ground conditions were so poor, the cemetery was moved to Rognsbru in 1883. However a new cemetery was built around the church a few years later when it was filled in with soil. Kilebygda has since had two cemeteries; one on Rognsbru and the one around the church.
The church is located a scant hundred feet from the county road 356 and right on the waters edge.
