Monks chat with locals in the late afternoon. Of the approximate 1000 monks, used to be resident in the monastery buildings of this pagoda, only a handful are left after the uprising in 2007. Their accommodations are sealed off by the military junta.

Every afternoon at 5 pm sharp the premisses of the Shwedagon Pagoda are swept by troops of young ladies under the command of a male headmen. Soon after the girls convene in a special area, eat and drink and flirt with the boys who happily join them.
