Le toponyme « Fondry des Chiens » date d'environ 1863, lorsqu'on exploitait systématiquement les crassiers qui jouxtaient les excavations des anciennes minières, pour en livrer les « crayats », par trains entiers, aux usines métallurgiques de la région de Charleroi.
