Yes, it's an administrative town of public servants and politicians. I lived there for a number of years and enjoyed my time there, but was glad to leave and move on.
Yes, there are tourist attractions around Lake Burley Griffin like the ANG, Questacon, High Court, etc. While I lived there it became the blue movie capital with a big mail order industry in the industrial part of town. They even ran a bus tour to various places of interest.
I used to find the differences in terminology amusing, tavern instead of pub being a big one. They were nothing like I was used to in Sydney or Brisbane.
And then its colder there for more of the year, say compared to Brisbane or Sydney (exception being Melbourne - it's cold but a really cool place).
