2000 year old Maitreya Buddha 2000 year old Maitreya Buddha
5 meters high. Sankoo. Suru Valley, Zanskar. In a remote Muslim area of Kashmir, but here, unlike in Bamiyan, this is untouched, and almost never seen by tourists at all.

Was done by early Buddhists in around the first century......it has survived quite well!

Il y a celui-ci, et plusieurs rochers avec des gravures Buddhistes du 1e siecle en Zanskar....mais au lieux Mussulmanes entre Kargil et Panikhar. La plupart des touristes ne les voient pas. Nous avons eu un chauffeur local (Muslim) de Kargil qui nous a apporte la. A cet endroit ( 5 km de la route principale, dans une vallee ou on cultive de l'orge) il n'y avait que des pres, et des femmes Mussulmanes qui traviallent. Pas de touristes, pas de signes, ...rien sauf le Buddha....

Pour info, il y en a encore une autre à Yourbaltak, le Bouddha Maitreya de Turmal. C'est à 20 km de Kargil sur la route de Batalik.
