Hahaha - I do know they have that reputation! I have a Scottish friend and can't understand a word he says unless he talks to me like I'm a 5-year-old.

Yes the Scots are people you love, or hate. Many of them are house trained nowadays, but you have to be careful where you take them and keep them on a short leash. :)

I happen to love irreverent people (unless they're drunk), and anyway, my friend spent many years in the RAF and lives in the north of England. That might have filed down the rough spots. I watched a fascinating explanation for the special nastiness and violent talk/actions of Trump supporters. First, there is the instigation of the man himself. Second, it felt so "right" to that group, because they are mainly southerners and many descended from bloodthirsty Scots warrior tradition. That may explain the "special" attitude they have. The Confederacy would have grown out of that culture, and southerners in large numbers are still fighting and hating the north. The origins of another aspect of American culture is more well known - religious fundamentalism - of course from the earliest settlers. My own addition is that all of it produced our gun fixation, all of it an angry us-against-the-rest-of-you-until-death attitude.

Oh well, many of us don't fit into that stuff, even with an English, Scottish (and Irish!) heritage like mine. Jeez, that's too long for a reply, but I just happened to think of it.
