The River Avon

The River Avon
This is a beautiful river and brings back many memories from my childhood. I used to swim and fish and walk it's banks. June is the time to see it at it's best.

So peaceful, David. Just enough current to make it fun for kids to swim. Lovely shot!

Indeed Diane. A few miles down river from this point in the river is were I learnt to swim, when I was six, or seven. because it is fairly shallow for a lot of it's length, the Avon is quite warm in the Summer. Lovely, except for the midges.

Oh, those nasty midges ruin a lot of pleasant watery places here, too, including golf courses all summer. I'm sure that's why there are only two and they are usually empty. The Avon sounds like the perfect place to learn to swim! Most waterways aren't "quite warm" here in the west, because they are fed by snowmelt. I recall, though, that kids pay no attention to that after the initial blood-curdling screams upon jumping in.

I don't do cold water, cryogenic castration is not something I like. :)
