A la fin de l’été, au début de l’automne naissent des ouvrières qui vont vivre de cinq à six mois. Elles auront à protéger la reine, à maintenir l’essaim qui passera l’hiver à une température de 30 °C, puis, dès le mois de février, préparer l’arrivée des nouvelles générations.
Ici elle ne récolte pas de pollen, ses corbeilles sont vides, elle se nourrit elle-même.
