Diane, You have done a wonderful visual for those of us nowhere near this area. And, it is something we, as American Citizens, need to remember. These were also American Citizens - but it didn't matter.

Outside US almost nobody did know the facts about the internment of Japanese Americans citizens during WW2, after Pearl Harbour. I personally learned something when I first saw "Snow Falling on Cedars" an intensive movie which really impressed me at that time.

Andrea, thank you for your thoughtful comment. I am glad you learned about this. Fortunately, there was no chance for our government to cover this up - although there was no apology or restitution payment for many years after. The people got out of the camps and went on with their lives. Everyone knew where they had been and I think they were treated with more kindness by ordinary people than while the war was on. They had lost everything and had to start over again, but most were very successful and prosperous. I knew one of those families.
