That highway on the left is the border between Oregon and California. I am sitting on the California side (woohoo!).

NOTE: I am always amused by comments about how American the subjects in my photos look. Welp,* yes they do, but it's the only stuff I've got to look at around here! I thank all of you for making me smile. ;-b

Grew up here, moved to California with my family in 1962. I will always consider myself a Californian. Mom and Dad moved back here to retire, because it's WAY cheaper. Eventually, I could tell they weren't doing well on their own. I agonized over moving back here, because it was always the last place I'd ever want to live! But, I knew I had to. Dad died a year after I arrived, now Mom is 93 and in assisted living close by. She has Alzheimer's. I'm glad I got to spend Dad's last year with him.

I never have adjusted to living here (really, I kind of refuse to adjust to it!), but it's made bearable by my son and grandchildren, who also live here. We're all still here because now we can't afford where we came from! Culturally, it's massively unlike the San Francisco area and I don't even socialize here. Ten years later, I'm still homesick. Fortunately, I have two good neighbors, also single, older women and also from California, so we commiserate, sometimes. Other than that, an old friend in California and Ipernity friends are my long-distance social life.

Well, that's it! ;-b
