I really like this one.................maple "helicopters"! On the thumbnail they look like a swarm of insects.

We have two very large sycamore trees in our garden and they produce "helicopter" seeds like these. We spend half the year pulling up baby trees :-))

Ugh, I know what you mean! They pop up everywhere. This spring the helicopters were much more numerous than ever before. Strange!

am i crazy, or have the maples trees been doing an extra amount of flowering and seed dropping this year?

You're not crazy. I noticed that, too, in fact the little devils get tracked into my house, into the car, gum up my shoes in the process. I've never seen such a thick carpet of them. The flowers make my eyes burn and my nose plug up!
