Escape

Escape
Inspired by Pat Del to add the link to Why I Live at the P.O., one of my all-time favorite short stories. By the wonderful Eudora Welty (1909-2001). art-bin.com/art/or_weltypostoff.html

Yes, but I couldn't find it. So, I now live at the post office. ;-b
There is a wonderful, hilarious short story by Eudora Welty called Why I Live at the P.O. art-bin.com/art/or_weltypostoff.html

A tomb-like atmosphere, something grand, Egyptian.
I love the detail of the figure escaping the fire..

It feels that way inside. Classic 1930s art deco gov't building. Thank you, Steve!

Stick-Man was in trouble. I hope he escaped rather than stopping to read his mail. ;-)

It was all just bills, anyway, so he threw it into the fire! Thanks, Ronald!

Thanks Pam
After a couple of lines, I gave up google translation (a real disaster)
But I keep the name of Welty in around of my memory

Sylvain, you can probably find her stories translated into French. Perhaps at a large library? The P.O. story is in this collection: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Curtain_of_Green

merci, publié en français sous le titre : "L'homme pétrifié"

Oh, glad you have it there! If you read her work, keep in mind she is writing using Southern slang, or at least a Southern accent. I can't imagine how that could be translated into French!

It is and it's a very attractive building. I was looking for my shot of the whole building, but couldn't find it anywhere - including on GE. Grr! I'll just have to get a new one.
