Wow! I feel I've just returned from a trip on a time machine.............that motel is definitely stuck in a time warp - and made all the more interesting for it (as long as you didn't have to stay for too long)..!!

Thank you, Andy. This was in my 1950s motel. It's a rack to store clean, folded or rolled towels, wash cloths, etc. The towels have to be pretty thin, which they all were until about the 70s.
