This was a shocking design in 1959. "Whaaat? Horizontal fins? My aunt bought one and we were sooo jealous!

Great chrome. Someone's eye had been trained by Harley Earl. I just realized you have to have the chrome to make people notice the structural features of the car. And it makes the car look light enough to fly.

Yes, I'm sure you're right! This is one of the most unique American car designs ever, I think. The classic cars parked here (for a show in Crescent City) were so glossy that they were kind of hard to photograph, but I also couldn't wait for calmer, late afternoon light.

They were a disaster in Florida -- the salty air ate through the fins.

Oops, missed this comment! I can imagine that, Don. Nobody wants holey fins!

never seen one of these before! Great shot!
Having to limit comments to one photo per member upload. Sort of rationing I suppose as one week away due to lack of internet has left me with too much catching up to do at a time when I need to recover work also lost due to no internet. Sorry! Normal service to be resumed as soon as possible!

Don't be sorry! At any time, my antique laptop may knock me out of Ip, so I sympathize. Thanks for the honor, Andy! ;-)

My parents had a'59 Bel Air and then a '60 Impala but it was before I was born so I never rode in them.

Oh, darn! My aunt bought a new Impala in '59 and I remember how shocking it looked. It took awhile to get used to those horizontal fins.
