From the realms of mist

From the realms of mist
A scene of silence and wonder as the morning mist swirls around the church of St Anne, high on the crown of the hamlet of Lydgate. A combination of light, frost and dew makes the farmland grass glisten as though sprinkled with flour. Only an hour or so later this would all be back to normality.
Notice the differences in landscape and buildings between the two pictures here.

The PiP, now around 50 years old, from an old slide, shows the same hill and church, when every year, whole families would enjoy playing in the snow. Some short years later the farmer fenced all of these fields off so that these field were inaccessible. Besides - the regular winter snows were soon to be replaced with scenes like the one above.

Great that you remembered the Lowry shot -maybe even from my Panoramio days. Just goes to prove there are still shots of the place around now. No people nowadays so no Lowry paintings for us here. Cheers for enjoying.

The diffused light and the mist combine to give this scene a distinct aura of quiet and tranquility - it's really beautiful Herb, and you describe it perfectly!

I remember the image in the PiP...............well worth another viewing...........and the difference is amazing!

This lighting as you know full well Kieth, is a favourite of mine. I did not mean to go and get this view, instead, screeching to a halt in my car on the way to try and get some more misty shots of Dovestones. Anyway, I am glad I managed to capture what I saw. It was completely normal when I drove past here again an hour or so later.
Sometimes nice to be able to compare the same views over time. Glad you remembered my PiP.

What a difference, you wouldn't say it's the same landscape!!

I can quite understand your sentiment here Christa. In all fairness, the older one was taken a little closer and with a longer zoom but it is certainly the same scene.

Terrific atmosphere here Herb and I love the way the mist shrouds the church and the frost turns the ground white. Beautiful. Great PiP. Love the colours against the white snow.

A double winner for you then Carol, which is always nice for me too. Yes, two completely different aspects of this hill giving us a blast from the past.

Mist produces such magical pictures Herb. This is stunning. I love your PiP! It reminds me of a Lowry painting, which I also love. Cheers, Rosa.

Hi Rosa, yes mist can be so inspiring at times. The PiP picture, that you could follow, is actually called 'Lowry Days in my title. So glad you enjoyed them both.
