Large Magellanic cloud MK II

Large Magellanic cloud MK II
A second look at the inconic clouds that we see all the time out in the "Dark".

On a night of total disappointments I came away with this set of shots 61 photos 200mm lens tracked on Sky watcher unit.

LutzP, SV1XV, Holger Hagen, diedje and 9 other people have particularly liked this photo

I see nothing disappointing there! =)

So, did I understood right... This image is made by combining 61 exposures, to get all details.

yes 61 shot stacked on each other plus 3 x 100 Back shots for noise and Vignetting and then trying to edit some thing you just cant see.

the disappointment is YOU just cant align the tracker as you cant see the stars, in the north its easy The north star. I am trying to make this work as best I can but fast seeing what I wanted to achieve slip away in the sinking sand. these are 10 sec shots to try an get in point stars as the trackers is just not accurate as you cant align it.

I now fully understand the dilemma and difficulty of such photography! And no any help from any online apps and web sites, I guess. I would imagine someone would have made a software that could help setting the gear.

I wish it was true but what I want to do is in the realm of mystery as you cant see the 4 stars.

Southern Alignment points Octans

in the south you just set it to the right coordinates and hope for the best but a good shot is 1m30sec worth of time I cant get past 20 sec. as its a manual head its up to the other manual head to get it right but as yet I have no answer BUT I dont want to give up. I dont want to join the telescope brigade and auto computer tracking. I have been a real photographer all my life and I want to stay that way frustration or not.

I never thought it would be this hard but I have always lived with the motto "there is always more than one way to skin a cat" why cat I dont know but comes from my grandfather.Something that has stuck with me all these years. So I am always looking testing to see if I can get it right simply and with logic.....

A fine image, Steve, and certainly no need to be disappointed with it.

This you are right as its with the focal its the 90 degrees away from the front thats the problem but may have found the answer. Just come in from testing in the field but not in the dark. Love this shot my background on computer. these are why I bought the tracker last night was a nightmare apart from these shots.

If only my disappointments ended up with such fine images as this one Steve. I must admit that I would have given up long ago but you just go on and on soldiering on till you eventually nail it or as near as matters. Well done! ~ Herb

A day of thinking and I have I believe found a work able way to get all this set up after doing a test tonight with Clara at the local beach ( not dark). shots certainly worked much better than last night lot and more consistent. this is my computer background it reminds me why I own a camera, suffer dark nights in the cold on my own. this I like big time.

I would have to say that is the case but I am the beginner trying to learn. These shot also came from my childhood reading books..
