A new year and a Whole lot of learning

I do wonder if it could be used to get stars or e.g. moon stopped against some blurred background objects (e.g. trees and rocks). So to do the opposite than on shots where you have circles of stars and some lit landscape.

That sure would happen but I believe its great benefit is to get close ups of the galaxy's and nebular's 300mm lens trained on the horse head nebular for 2 min and no movement is my wish. I will not go away from my grass roots of Milky way Landscapes some thing I enjoy no end but all this came from my father wonder of the stars and photography.

Stay tuned a lot of work to get it all working correctly but I look forward to it.

I wish I had your confidence but I am more than willing to try if I can get a bow I must be able to do this. its not easy to line up you see the 4 star in the PIP thats what you have to find in the night sky. this is some thing once I started getting Milky way bow I wanted to do I am happy that my wife thought it worth it as well to let me spend the money. I know the images that can be captured are totally out of this world.

this is all my gear add a tracker i hope to get out this weekend but we have a moon that will not help find the stars. All I can say is stay tuned...................

a nice thing to have Steve and they are easy to use. Now I want to see pictures made by you of the LMC and SMC. A lot of pleasure and luck with it

You will most certainly get them once I have figured it all out. We dont have a star to line up to it is the 4 stars but my last trip out they can be seen by eye. I have so far got the theory worked out just have to get out into the dark to try it all out. I will not start with 150-600mm but more 105mm or 70-200mm. it certainly opens up a different world of view.

Toz its the gear I have always had but for the tracker It all works well its just now to get out in the dark not so good with full moon. make use of the non milky way time of the year till December - march/April/ May depends how late you want to stay up. the long lens here will not be the first but more 200mm and a few nights to get it all together. the stacking program is huge compared to any thing I have used before just for 20 shots of the stars you have to come back with 100 other images for camera noise reduction.

once again I will have a sheet written out to follow out in the dark like a novice.

No as we dont get the eclipse out of view for us. I want to start with a few easy ones LMC & SMC and Orion.I am waiting for the moon to pass out of my view though to get a clear shot. All the very best to you for the weekend.

George I have a page of set up written out but dead keen to have a go but will stars with some thing not so large as this. moons killing me at the moment but I am ready I have made a custom bag to carry the gear in foam for protection.

So the full monty on display here Steve, That camera looks very high from the top of the middle tripod but I imagine it is meant to work like that. Will be an even better picture when you have the counter-weights on here too. As for close ups of the stars and nebulae, as all these above me here, I look forward to seeing the results which will surely come. Have fun. ~ Herb
