The Chřiby Mountains constitute the north-west border of Moravian Slovakia and they slope down to the fertile Haná region on the other side of the ridge. They are unique by the number of places of interest in a relatively small area.
The Chřiby Mountains are famous for their preserved beech forests, magnificent views and local rocks. As for the interesting natural locations, we can remember, for example, the Nature Reserve Smutný žleb and the Natural Monument Máchova dolina, in the surroundings of which the very rare Alpine longhorned beetle has been seen, or the Nature Reserve Holý kopec.
There are several archaeological sites in the region of the ChÅ™iby Mountains. The most famous one is the Hillfort of St Clement near OsvÄ›timany. As for the most attractive landmarks, these are the medieval ruin of the Cimburk Castle, the Castle Buchlov, the Buchlovice Chateau, the Basilica in Velehrad or the Baroque cemetery in StÅ™Ãlky.
