Kroměříž: The Church of St. Maurice and St. John the Baptist, Czech Republic

Kroměříž is sometimes called the Athens of the Hanacko region. Since the 12th century, it was the property of the Olomouc bishopric, later archbishopric. Bruno of Schaumburg, the bishop of Olomouc, founded the Cathedral of St. Moritz with its three-nave Gothic disposition before the year 1262. After a fire in the mid-19th century, it was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style.

Another significant monument of Kroměříž is the Church of St. John the Baptist. Two Maltese crosses on two towers serve as reminders of the former Maltese building. This Baroque church was built as a part of the complex of the Piarists´ school and the college.
