Thank you. Sorry I could not determine whether this is a male or female (the descriptions I found are too vague for me to tell ( books.google.com/books?id=4lMDAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA348&dq=Anisota+virginiensis&hl=en&ei=fZwBTKzEEILCMYmEtDs&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=7&ved=0CEAQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=Anisota%20virginiensis&f=false ). Hopefully we will be informed by someone more knowledgeable than I.

Please see Think Pink (Kate)'s comment below: it is a male. From what I could determine, this moth is distributed primarily in North America (US and Canada).

Merci beaucoup pour votre commentaire et votre invitation. Je pense que la raison pour laquelle vous ne le reconnaissez pas, c'est parce que sa distribution semble être en Amérique du Nord.
Belle nouvelle semaine.

that's one professional moth - it knows just how to stand to show its coat, legs and fuzziness off! it's crazy, it looks so petable.

did you just come across this moth or do you follow them around and wait for them to alight of something? the moths in my area are always on the move.

great job showing this one off!

Thank you so much for your comments. Yes, it does look pettable :) Its fur looks so silky and smooth. Actually I was outside watering some new plants and at the same time checking to see if there were dragonflies around, when I spotted it on the outside wall of the house. And actually I was pleased with the result if I may say so :)

Thank you very much. I think its wingspan was something like 1.5 to 2 inches.
Also thank you again very much for showing me how to do PiPs: as you can see I am making full use of my new toy!
