Built in 1143 A.D., this abbey and its monks survived trials and tribulations in its long history.
In 1539 the abbey was surrendered when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries

Yes, though having the windows open to the elements, not as much as if it were enclosed.
Your ancestors were very good architects, they've left us some beautiful examples of their work!
