Der über 1200-jährige Aachener Dom ist ein heterogen aufgebautes, durch viele Stilepochen beeinflusstes Bauwerk, das durch zahlreiche Überformungen, Niederlegungen und Anbauten gekennzeichnet ist. Die Funktion des Kirchenbaus veränderte sich im Laufe der Geschichte von der einst karolingischen Pfalzkapelle, über die Münsterkirche des Marienstiftes, zum Bischofsdom der Gegenwart. Als Mausoleum Karls des Großen war die Stiftskirche von 936 bis 1531 Krönungsort römisch-deutscher Könige. lt. Wikipedia

Aachen Cathedral, which is more than 1200 years old, is a heterogeneously constructed building influenced by many stylistic epochs and characterised by numerous alterations, demolitions and additions. I had visited Aachen a couple of years ago ( www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/49602878 )
and liked it very much!
Why I did not walk down this street to see this wonderful composition I have no idea (maybe because of Christmas market..)
