Aldeburgh Scallop Shell

Hambling's Scallop (2003) stands on the north end of Aldeburgh beach. It is a tribute to Benjamin Britten and is pierced with the words "I hear those voices that will not be drowned" from his opera Peter Grimes.
Created from stainless steel by Suffolk-based artist Maggi Hambling, it stands 15 feet (4.6 metres) high, and was unveiled in November 2003. The piece is made up of two interlocking scallop shell. Many locals don't like it, and it has been vandalised by some. I think it's majestic and a wonderful tribute to Benjamin Britten.

No-one under the age of 60 here. The birthday girl is the one in the white T-shirt. It was her 70th birthday. She lives in Spain and was over to visit her sister. We had a superb picnic at the turning point and a jolly time was had by one and all. :-)

The Sunday Challenge this week is rain. We haven't had a drop this week, so this evening I hung the garden hose with a sprinkler on over a support, turned the water on, and the hanging basket turned into tropical jungle.

Now this was scary. very dark with tripping hazards everywhere, and the only light was from Per's lighter. I couldn't really see what photo I was taking, and was surprised to find out that I had anything. Flash fired automatically of course.
